James Reynolds is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Loop Capital. I recently sat down with Jim to talk about muni bonds, the future of his home state of Illinois and what Democrats can learn from Republican governors like Chris Christie, Scott Walker, and John Kasich. Video and a transcript of our conversation follows.
Steve Forbes: Jim, good to have you again. It been a couple of years.
Jim Reynolds: It has been.
Forbes: You run a relatively small firm, sort of a jack of all trades though. You are in a lot of areas, munis. But you are in public-private partnership financing, M&A, been doing acquisitions. So, how would you define the firm, and what do you think it goes. Then, how do you survive in an area where we have too big to fail, despite all the rhetoric to the contrary.
Reynolds: Well, I will start with your second question first. The good news is we have been able to avoid the attention of Washington, D.C. And the intense scrutiny of the regulators. Wee not deemed too big to fail nor are we considered a SIFI [Systemically Important Fiscal Institution], which is great.

Speedway Motorsports has a joint venture with International Speedway Corporat ion to produce, market, and sell licensed motorsports collectible and consumer products, primarily trackside event souvenir merchandising. The company was founded in 1959 and is based in Concord, North Carolina.
Advisors' Opinion:- [By Patricio Kehoe]
The motorsports industry is a natural monopoly at the local level, since only one racetrack can hold NASCAR events in each market, and until now, International Speedway has won this battle. Nevertheless, over the past five years, this company has suffered under declining ticket and concession spending, due to a weak demographic fan base located in troubled geographies. Although recent racetrack changes and customer stabilization will leave ISCA well positioned when spending power increases once again, this is bound to happen at a slow pace. However, the distinct properties of each racetrack attract high brand loyalty, and have compelled competitors like Speedway Motorsports Inc. (TRK) to focus business on completely different markets, therefore posing no real threat to ISCA.

Top 10 Gas Utility Stocks To Watch For 2015: QR Energy LP(QRE)
QR Energy, LP, through its subsidiary, QRE Operating, LLC, engages in the acquisition, production, and development of onshore crude oil and natural gas properties in the United States. As of March 31, 2011, its properties consisted of working interests in 2,140 gross producing wells located in Alabama, Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas. QRE GP, LLC operates as the general partner of the company. QR Energy, LP was founded in 2006 and is based in Houston, Texas.
Advisors' Opinion:- [By Lee Jackson]
QR Energy L.P. (NYSE: QRE) is an energy total return home run for investors. This MLP after a recent acquisition is now one of the largest producers (2,300 barrels per day) in the historic East Texas oil field. Raymond James has a $19 target, the consensus is at $20. Investors are paid a huge 11.7% distribution. MLP distributions may include return of principal.

3. QR Energy (NYSE: QRE ) -- 11.7% yield
QR Energy is an exploration and production MLP, focused on developing mature assets in five different oil- and gas-producing regions stretching from the Permian Basin up to central Michigan. It's a small operation, with reserves of 99.1 million barrels of oil equivalent to its name. - [By Robert Rapier]
While I still think LRE units are undervalued, BreitBurn Energy Partners probably presents a more compelling case at present.
QR Energy (NYSE: QRE) reported a solid third quarter, with earnings before interest, taxation, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) up 13 percent to $69 million. Production was up 5 percent despite a disruption at some of it operations.
Distributable cash flow for the quarter was up 26 percent to $35 million, or $0.54 per unit, adequately covering its current distribution of $0.4875. (The partnership will convert to monthly distributions in 2014.) Based on Friday’s close, this translates into an annualized yield of 11.8 percent. Given that QRE’s solid performance came despite temporary production issues, it looks like a decent bet in the upstream MLP space for 2014.
Top 10 Gas Utility Stocks To Watch For 2015: HeartWare International Inc (HTWR)
Heartware International, Inc. (HeartWare), incorporated on June 25, 2010, develops and manufactures small implantable heart pumps, or ventricular assist devices, for the treatment of advanced heart failure. The HeartWare Ventricular Assist System (the HeartWare System), which includes a ventricular assist device (VAD), or blood pump, patient accessories and surgical tools, is designed to provide circulatory support for patients in the advanced stage of heart failure. The core of the HeartWare System is a continuous flow blood pump, the HVAD Pump, which is a full-output device capable of pumping up to 10 liters of blood per minute. The HeartWare System is designed to be implanted adjacent to the heart, avoiding the abdominal surgery generally required to implant similar devices. In August 2012, it acquired World Heart Corporation. As of December 31, 2012, the HeartWare System has been implanted outside of the United States at approximately 168 health care sites in 28 countries. In December 2013, HeartWare International Inc acquired CircuLite, Inc.
Proprietary Pump Technology
The HeartWare System is full-output centrifugal pump designed to be implanted in the chest, directly adjacent to the heart. At the core of the Company technology platform is its hybrid system for suspending the impeller, which is the only moving part within the pump. The impeller is suspended within the pump housing by the opposing forces of passive magnets and hydrodynamic thrust generated by the pump impeller, which circulates a cushion of
blood. Once power is applied to the device and the impeller begins to rotate, there are no points of mechanical contact within the pump, thus providing a completely wearless pumping system.
The HeartWare System
The HeartWare System consists of the HVAD Pump, a small, permanently implantable VAD, patient accessories and surgical tools. The HVAD Pump is capable of generating up to 10 liters of blood flow per minute. With a displaced v! olume of only 50 cubic centimeters and a mass of 140 grams, the HVAD Pump is the only full-output pump implantable in the pericardial space, directly adjacent to the heart. It is also the only pump designed to be implanted above the diaphragm in all eligible patients.
The HeartWare MVAD
The miniaturized ventricular assist device (MVAD) is a miniaturized blood pump intended for chronic heart failure patients. The device is a full-output axial flow pump with a fully suspended rotor and a displacement volume approximately one-third that of the HVAD Pump.
The Company competes with Thoratec Corporation, Jarvik Heart, MicroMed Technology, Inc, Berlin Heart AG, Terumo Heart, Inc., Sunshine Heart, Inc and CircuLite, Inc., Evaheart Medical USA, Inc.
